Today I want to talk to you about Bacon. Now this is rather difficult as there isn’t very much you can say about Bacon, except that it is one of the best meats available. (I mean who doesn’t like Bacon!! Apart from you, yes you the one that is going to complain about the poor pigs. Circle of life this is all.)
So, back to Bacon. Apart from being absolutely delicious, there are many wonderful meals you can create using bacon. So, we are going to talk about those.
First on the list is The Fools Gold Loaf, what is The Fools Gold Loaf you may ask, well it is a sandwich made famous by the King of Rock & Roll himself, Elvis Presley.
Elvis was known to enjoy The Fools Gold Sandwich that much that he and 2 of his friends flew in his private jet (called the Lisa Marie) from Memphis to Denver.
Between them they ate 22 Fools Gold Loafs while drinking champagne and Perrier before flying back to Memphis 2 hours later.
The Fools Gold Sandwich was created by The Colorado Mine Company restaurant and it consisted of a loaf of sourdough bread, a jar of peanut butter and a jar of jelly (Jam in the UK) and a pound of bacon. Somewhere down the line Banana was added to the recipe and that became known as The Elvis Sandwich
The loaf was cut in half and the bread scooped out, then the peanut butter and jelly was lathered all on the inside of the loaf, then the cooked bacon was added. The Fools Gold Loaf is huge me and 2 of my friends wouldn’t get through one let alone 22!!
The Elvis Sandwich is basically the same: just using 2 slices of toasted bread, cooked bacon rashers, peanut butter, jelly (jam) and sliced banana. Now this I could tackle myself.
